Service Description

Life Drawing is a progressive course taught by Pamela Lenck Bradford, MFA at the Ginkgo Tree Fine Art Center. Class size is limited to 10-15 students, and the environment is respectful and supportive. Students draw from a nude or partially clothed live model to practice and improve their life drawing skills. Fundamentals covered include life drawing technique, concept, composition, and the elements of design. Class opens with a welcome and a brief lesson. Students warm up with a series of gesture drawings before long-term poses are set. At least one 90-minute pose occurs in each class. Pamela gives one-on-one instruction to each student during class. Class concludes with a positive teacher-led critique of the students' art during which students are encouraged to give feedback. By the end of the course, students can expect increased confidence in their life drawing skills, working in multiple mediums, and continuing to draw at home. Students must be at least 18 years of age, already have foundational drawing skills, and have a serious goal to improve their skills. Students are expected to commit to the full course of 9 classes over 9 weeks. Students must arrive on time, as class start- and end-times are strictly adhered to. New students must first contact Pamela to state their interest before enrolling online! Tuesdays, 3 – 6 PM CST, March 11 – May 6: 9 classes over 9 weeks Pamela provides easels as needed, drawing horses, drafting tables, and coffee/tea. Students must bring their own art supplies including drawing materials, erasers, paper, Masonite board, and clips. Suggested drawing materials include professional graphite drawing pencils from hard to soft, ebony graphite pencils, conté drawing sticks (black, terracotta, and white), and professional black charcoal drawing sticks and pencils from soft to hard. Suggested erasers are kneaded and pink. Drawing paper/pad should be professional, acid-free, a minimum size of 18” x 24”, and medium surface (Strathmore is recommended). A Masonite drawing board and clips are also required. Students may bring their own easels, but this is not required.
